Introducing Rocky Mount Chiropractor Dr. Matt Horvath
"I thought the pain would just go away....."I was told I would have to live with migraine headaches for the rest of of my life...."I wish I knew about Chiropractic before my low back surgery....."Why did my neck and low back start to hurt weeks after my auto accident?......"Will this numbness in my leg ever go away?"
As long as I can remember, I've always wanted to become a doctor. But what type? What interested me the most is how the body can heal itself, if given the chance. I can remember as a teenager, some friends and I went to the ballfield to play baseball one early spring. Without warming up, I picked up a baseball bat and swung it very hard. When I did this I heard and felt a "pop" in my mid back and felt immediate pain. Needless to say getting home was going to be quite difficult. Several weeks had passed with many visits to doctor to doctor and many x-rays with no real diagnosis. One medical doctor suggested that I wear orthopedic shoes for awhile. I finally ventured into a chiropractors office. After taking some x-rays on my mid-back, he showed me an area where a spinal segment misaligned a bit. This is what caused the "pop" and was the cause of my pain. After a few adjustments, my back pain ,of several weeks, was starting to get better. I then became interested in becoming a Chiropractor with the help of Dr. Hoffman .
My undergraduate studies were done at Henry Ford Community College and I then transferred to the University of Michigan-Dearborn. My Chiropractic education was from Logan College of Chiropractic. I received by Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Biology and my Doctor of Chiropractic. I also received my post graduate education in Acupuncture at Logan too. Since then I received my C.C.S.P.(Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner) from National College in 1991. Throughout the years, I've attended various seminars in Chiropractic and over 800 hours in Acupuncture.
I would have to say my favorite class was human anatomy. It was very interesting working on the cadavers. Mr. Ellis who taught the class at that time was excellent!
I took acupuncture as a post-graduate course at Logan college of Chiropractic starting in 1985. I received my diploma in Applied Acupuncture from Logan College in 1987 . Since then, I have taken several post graduate courses in acupuncture from Doctors Yennie, Sunderledge, Amaro and currently Dr. Bonnie Walker. I have over 800 hours in post graduate work. I also spent a few weeks in Beijing, China, in 1998. I visited a traditional hospital that used acupuncture, tai chi and chi gong. It was very interesting watching the doctors work.
I am currently enrolled in another advanced acupuncture and Chinese Herbal course.
As a chiropractor, I feel that it is important for patients to incorporate chiropractic care into their lifestyle. This is what chiropractic is all about. Lifetime wellness care. This is what I do! I get adjusted about every 4-6 weeks and use acupuncture as well. Most of us get dental checkups, right? Why not take care of your spine. The basic premise of chiropractic is structure leading to function. If my structure is out of balance, then the way I function through day to day life will be affected. You owe it to yourself and to the people closest to you to be the best that you can be. Through natural Chiropractic Care.
As most of my patients know, I'm originally from the Detroit Metropolitan area. I moved down to Rocky Mount to help Dr. Scorborough through his illness. Sooo..this practice has been serving the Nash/Edgecomb area for about 45 years!
I am currently single, and my family still lives in Michigan. My "family" here in Rocky Mount consists of my yellow lab Sadie (she is 11 now) and two cats Jinx and Tootsie.
My hobbies include scuba diving, playing the guitar and hockey. Of course, it's the Detroit Red Wings first Canes second.(Sorry). My favorite place to dive is Belize!
For my health habits, I mentioned earlier, I get adjusted about once a month. My Chiropractor is out of town, as well as Dr. Lee, who does Acupuncture. Nutrition is very important. That's why I use supplements like Standard Process. Exercise too. Whether it's walking the dog or exercising at home with a home gym.
